International Battery’s Energy Storage Systems integrated with Solar Integration System (SIS) for Net-Zero Energy Home Project

The new Solar Integration System (SIS) introduced by a California-based company, ‘Sunverge Energy (Sunverge)’, allows solar energy to be stored at home, and released by the utility company during times of peak demand. Sunverge Energy optimizes the value of solar power by leveraging the practical advantages of distributed generation and storage. Although there are so many Energy Management System providers, but for selecting a superior Energy Management System, it is to keep in mind that the simple, intelligent and cost-effective energy management system captures solar energy and stores it for use when it’s needed most, thereby shifting electrical loads, flattening peak electricity demand and maximizing return on renewable energy investments. Sunverge’s SIS offers a number of distinct storage–related advantages. ‘International Battery’, ‘a U.S. company involved in manufacture, design and development of large-format Lithium ion rechargeable cells, batteries and energy storage systems (ESS)’, has been selected by Sunverge to provide its Lithium ion energy storage systems (ESS) as the energy storage component of Sunverge’s Solar Integration System (SIS). This fully integrated distributed energy system will provide a turnkey solar solution to support a Net-Zero Home Energy demonstration of Sunverge Energy, at the Philadelphia Navy Yard’s Clean Energy Innovation Hub.

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) to develop Grid-tied solar arrays on the roofs of large public buildings

In view to help serve the growing demand for renewable power, Tucson Electric Power (TEP) is going to develop Grid-tied solar arrays on the roofs of large public buildings. Tucson Electric Power is planning to lease space atop schools and other public facilities for the development of 11 megawatts (MW) of new TEP-owned solar generating capacity over the next three years. The Tucson Electric Power is initiating this exercise under its new TEP Bright Roofs program. TEP Bright Roofs will feed solar energy directly into TEP's local distribution grid, generating enough clean power to serve more than 1,800 Tucson homes. The program is designed for buildings with at least 50,000 square feet of flat rooftop space, enough room for a photovoltaic (PV) system that generates about 250 kilowatts (kW).

Wysips breaking technology - Wysips Transparent Film to turn Phone Screen into a Solar Panel

“Wysips is designed to become an integral part of the screen of devices. WYSIPS makes materials and objects energy self-sufficient as it constantly recharges electronic equipment, even indoors, and also increases the operating range and mobility. WYSIPS provides a transparent, flexible solar surface that’s unique on the market with endless applications”.

Wysips, a small French technology company has created a new technology that would allow any cell phone to use solar power. Wysips designed a thin, transparent, photovoltaic film which will be placed on a phone’s screen to continuously top off a gadget’s charge using only the sun. Based on a principal of optics, Wysips technology builds solar panels into a surface without changing its appearance. Using wysips technology, any image, or any visible surface can become a photovoltaic source. The concept behind this technology is developed from research on lenticular images, which show different pictures depending on the observer’s position. The technology is poised to put electrical power sources into places for objects like, mobile phone and computer screen, clothes, books, cars, houses, etc. The expertise of Wysips for technologies especially by combining lenses with the most innovative solar solutions, seamlessly integrates it into screens, glass, fabrics, sails, plastics, and makes them all into photovoltaic energy sources. As it uses free and inexhaustible energy supply, WYSIPS Technology can be built into many different products so as to provide them many benefits. WYSIPS makes materials and objects energy self-sufficient as it constantly recharges electronic equipment, even indoors, and also increases the operating range and mobility.

Installation of 10 MW solar power plant in Tibet by Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd. (NYSE: STP), announced to develop a 10MW solar installation in Tibetan.

Tibet, the mountainous country relied heavily on hydroelectric resources, for much of its baseload power production. But, in recent years the changes in climate have caused more frequent droughts and reduced water volumes in hydroelectric reservoirs. These changes have led to peak power shortages that are an impediment to the region's continued economic growth. Tibet is extensively supported by one of the largest producer of solar panels i.e Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd., in the electric production units of Tibet through renewable energy and specifically through Solar energy. Over the last few years, Suntech has donated more than fifty independent solar systems for schools, community centers, and houses throughout the region. Suntech has been active in rural electrification projects in Tibet.

Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant commissioned in Colorado's Alamosa County

Colorado's Alamosa County has achieved a sustainable solution to get rid of electric grid supply shortage and power cuts. The completion and commissioning of 19-megawatt Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant has been announced by Xcel Energy and SunPower Corporation. This Greater Sandhill Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant is installed in Colorado's Alamosa County to provide a reliable source for supply of electricity through Solar Energy. This solar power plant is installed with SunPower's high-efficienT Solar PV Technology, which is fast to install and is competitively-priced for power plant applications. The plant uses SunPower® Tracker systems, which generate up to 25 percent more energy than conventional systems while reducing land-use requirements. The SunPower Trackers makes much energy capture because of it’s tilting toward the sun as it moves across the sky and hence provides more power on hot summer days when utilities need it most. This Greater Sandhill solar power plant is capable to feed annual requirement of about 5000 homes and it is currently the largest operating PV solar power plant in Colorado. The Greater Sandhill is completed after a long construction journey of about 9 months.

Agreement among German Aerospace Center and Australian Solar Institute to cooperate on research into concentrating solar energy technology

The German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, DLR) and the Australian Solar Institute (ASI) agreed to cooperate on research into concentrating solar energy technology.

It is a burning issue all over the world, that, how to make a solution to handle the situation of energy crises presumed to arise due to depleting conventional energy resources. The countries either developed or in developing stage, all are making efforts to develop technology much efficient so as electricity generated through renewable energy sources should be economical and easily affordable. Solar energy is abundantly available all over the world and so is expected to be a reliable solution of this burning issue. Researchers and Technologists from nations are making efforts and are under way to emerge innovation in technology for use of materials and involved technology with most efficient use in generating electricity through solar energy.

The Australian Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Senator Kim Carr and Ulrich Wagner, the DLR Executive Board Member for Energy and Transport, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 16th March 2011, to cooperate on research into concentrating solar energy technology. The technology is best suited to regions with high levels of solar radiation, which includes large parts of Australia. DLR has been researching concentrating solar energy technology for over 30 years, and has one of the largest research teams in the world. As Australia is having excellent research infrastructure and high levels of solar radiation, there is hope of excellent results on reducing the cost of solar power for both the countries by working together using technology developed by DLR. This agreement will provide Australian researchers an opportunity to work with other leaders in the same field from DLR, to investigate cost and efficiency improvements in concentrating solar power. It is hope that this initiative of working of solar energy researchers of Australia with those in Germany will help to accelerate the technology breakthroughs required to allow solar energy to become a sustainable energy source in the future in Australia, Germany and around the world.
